I grew up in a very small town, and I always looked up to the daughter of our church’s piano player. You see, the daughter was a lawyer I greatly admired; she lived in Houston — and so, when I got older, I moved out there. She let me work in her office and shadow a paralegal, which is what I wanted to be. But then I started reading law books, and let me tell you: I just fell in love with the whole idea of being a lawyer myself.
My Own Boss in Richmond, Texas
I studied psychology with a minor in political science at Texas Southern University and after moving on to get my J.D. from the Thurgood Marshall School of Law, I worked as a lawyer for the DA of Cameron County for two years. The truth is, when I was in law school, I believed I wanted to work for the government, but I soon realized that I really just wanted to be my own boss.
So, I opened my own law firm in 2010 and chose to focus on criminal law — because that is the area to which my background led me.
You Can Call Me “Miss Annie”
My clients will probably tell you that I’m very personable. In fact, they feel comfortable calling me Annie, and some even add a “Miss” to that because throughout our relationship together, we form a mutual respect that seems to go beyond just the professionalism of the work we do together. After some time with me, you’ll feel that I care about how things turn out for you.
I have a heart for service. I really care about my clients — they’re not just numbers to me.
You’ll find that one of the things that sets me apart from other lawyers is the fact that I am able to relate to a lot of my clients, and I feel that my respect comes from us being able to relate. I grew up with family members struggling with the law — just like some of you — so I’ll never pass judgment on you. Instead, my goal is for you to feel like we’re fighting the same fight, from beginning to end.
Working Hard for You is What Keeps Me Going
If there’s one thing I think you should know about how I like to work, it should probably include my belief that whatever we do together needs to be a collaboration. I know for a fact that if you are invested in your outcome, you’ll feel like the entire process was worth it — and then some.
When all is said and done, the thing that keeps me going is simply helping you get back to your norm. I want you to get back to your life, leaving this legal situation behind you and allowing you to focus on your future.
